Summer of Promise by Amanda Cabot

This book is a meal certainly fit for this lion!  I am on page 293 and already feeling regret for the inevitable conclusion.  The setting is out West, but because the focus is on the military, it doesn’t feel overly spitoonish, if you know what I mean.  For me, that is an enjoyable bonus.  There is conflict between Abigail (the lead), and her brother-in-law.  Does he send her and her duds packing (beautifully described)?  There are also two conflicts among others that stand out to me.  What will happen to the soldier love interest, and what is burning me up currently (you get to worry when you read the book, No spoilers here!) What about Abigail’s sister?

This book makes me feel like my nose is pressed to the window.  I am laughing at the subtle humor based on the fort’s ladies.  I feel the grit from blowing dust under my nails.  I am scratching my head over the mystery of gold.  We can’t go West without the prerequisite gold correct?  Well…we shall see.  There are several lines of romantic tension, and Amanda Cabot handles them all expertly.  Why I hardly realize that my carriage is hurtling beyond reason down the beaten path!  This book has a good share of staying power.  This is what I use to gauge if a book wasted my time.   If I can remember the book when we are parted, it is a success.  So far, success!  Hunt this book and it will feed you!
